Los Angeles Mini-Sessions

The first ever Los Angeles mini-sessions were a great success! I photographed a total of 9 fantastic kids and teens over the first weekend of May and would love to share some of the shots with you. I hope to be able to do another one later this year and possibly offer mini-sessions in other cities, as well. If you would like to be put on a list to be notified on upcoming mini-sessions, please feel free to send me an e-mail.

4 Elements – Fire, Earth, Water and Air

I had been working on the concept of the 4 Elements (kids as Fire, Earth, Water and Air) for quite sometime. It definitely took a lot of planning between the casting of the kids, getting the right clothing & props to location scouting –  all those ‘elements’  played very key roles in this shoot. I knew I wanted something that looked very fantastical and ethereal. I was able to find some incredible designers  (with a lot of research) to come up with some fantastic pieces for this shoot with the help of stylist, Gabrielle Lewis and make-up artist, Robyn Vega. The kids were amazing and were real troopers even though the weather was a bit chilly, the water freezing – literally made my toes numb – and being in a forest full of crawly critters probably wasn’t the most appealing thing in the world. They each really depicted the elements exactly the way I had envisioned.

The shoot was featured in Aphotic Magazine (March/April 2012 issue) which is on sale now. I am excited to share the shots from the magazine along with many other favorites that didn’t end up in the magazine but are just as spectacular. I adore this shoot. Thanks to everyone for all your hard work and effort. You all rock!

‘how innocent and clever their eyes are’

My April 2012 cover of L.A. Parent and Boston PArent Paper of baby Whitney, 9 months (Zuri Model and Talent) just hit the stands today. One of the most adorable babies ever and to top it off, I didn’t even need to work to make her smile and laugh. She was so completely happy and easy to work with. I actually did a shoot with a total of 4 babies (as you never know how cooperative they will be or what type of mood they will be in). All the babies were very sweet and I have to say that I loved photographing all of them. I want to share the cover and as well as some out takes from this super fun shoot.

Whimsical Wonderland – Babiekins Issue 8

I have been waiting to share these images for months and am so excited to finally be able to post them. This was originally photographed for Babiekins Fall issue but it was decided that it would go better with the Feb 2012 issue so we were forced to wait (torture!) but now that Babiekins issue 8 is out, we can finally share away. Unfortunately, the magazine only ran 2 of the images from the shoot due to there being only one outfit featured and to space constraints so I thought I would share more of the images here on my blog. This happens to be one of my favorite shoots to date.

The concept was to have kids as dolls or marionettes so I thought what better clothing designer to work with than Fairytale Jubilee. Their creations are so whimsical and wonderful. I cast 3 amazing models/actors and designed a fantastical set using both backdrop and floor drop by Lemondrop Stop  and a variety of elements inspired by the illustrations of artist named AnnMei. Make-up and hair styling was done by the oh so talented Gabrielle Melville.

Rena,

Victoria Justice – Total Girl ‘Brainiac’ Issue

I was really excited to do work with actress and singer Victoria Justice (Nickelodeon’s ‘Victorious’) again, this time for Total Girl magazine (Australia). I remember the first time I photographed Victoria was for Teen magazine back in 2006 at her home showing off her room. Here is a super cute flashback shot from that shoot.

We did 3 different set ups for the February issue (Brainiac – Back to School) and upcoming July 2012 and October 2012 issues (not sure if I am allowed to reveal that yet so I better keep it under wraps for now). The Feb issue was super fun. I had a blast creating the set for the shoot. The concept being Back to School, I pitched the magazine the idea of having a vintage school desk (which my neighbor had given me last year and had been sitting in my garage collecting dust), with an apple and some vintage books, a brightly colored pennant banner that I would make, and a globe and then using a grey grunge backdrop from my friends over at Lemondrop Stop that would work perfectly as the chalkboard. Needless to say, they loved the idea. The set created and with amazing styling by Madison Guest and Make-up/Hair Stylist by Tamara Ogden – I would like to present the cover and inside feature of TG’s Feb issue. The magazine added all the really cool chalkboard stuff and added a yellow wall under the ‘chalkboard’ which made it look even more fantastic! What until you see the other issues! I really enjoyed working with Vic again and seeing her mom (they are always such a pleasure to work with). Can’t wait to do it again!
