My latest lifestyle concept photo shoot and short film ‘Summer Crush’ starring amazing teen models and actors Canon Kuipers and Vanessa Howard. Special thanks to hair/make-up artist Gabrielle Melville. This was a blast to film and photograph. I hope you enjoy it.
I was interviewed some time ago by Jeff Kent for Professional Photographer Magazine regarding my commercial work and it is finally out! The June 2013 issue was just released and I am pleased to show you the 4 page article showcasing some of my commercial work with kids. I talk about how commercial photography differs from retail photography and more.
It’s been crazy. It’s been busy. And I am grateful for it.
I spent 3 days in Dallas, Texas doing a weekend of headshot and modeling mini-sessions and then spent 10 fabulous days in New York City (staying in Brooklyn at 3 different locations). It was my first time visiting the city and I loved it. It was a long 10 days without my family though and I missed them like crazy but I did have the company of many gorgeous kids and teens (and their wonderful families) during my 30 photo shoots (plus one teen editorial which will be appearing in ‘The Mod Child‘ soon) and amazing hair/make-up artist, Jenna Baltes. So it wasn’t quite so lonely.
In between my many photo shoots, I was able to spend some time sight seeing while I was there. I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge at night and photographed the amazing Manhattan skyline from DUMBO Brooklyn, ate at Junior’s (the most scrumptious red velvet cheesecake), hailed taxis (I’m a Pro!), visited Ground Zero, Road the Subway, went to Times Square (saw ‘Spiderman Turn Off The Dark’ on Broadway), Central Park (walked more than I ever have in my life!) and the Museum of Natural History where nothing came to life (guess it was only in the movie). It was amazing and I can’t wait to go back.

I am thrilled to share with you the cover of the L.A. Parent ‘Your Child With Special Needs’ Spring 2013 cover that I photographed a couple of months ago. It features Chance the boy and Chance the horse – yep, they are both named Chance! The location for the shoot was done at the Shadow Hills Equestrian Center where they offer therapeutic classes for special needs kids. It’s such a great program and the owners of the equestrian center are such wonderful people.
I was super excited to be asked to be a speaker at WPPI 2013 in Las Vegas. I taught a 2-hour master class on ‘Editorial Concept Shoots for Kids’ that went remarkably well and included a live concept shoots with 2 child models (Rori and Kai – you both were amazing!) The conceptual idea for this stylized photo shoot was ‘British Invasion’ – I plan to do add to this shoot within the next month and submit to one of the kids fashion magazines. I absolutely love the way it came out (especially it being shot within 15-20 minutes in front of a class). Thank you to my wonderful photo assistant, Jen Dunham (who also happens to be my cousin and a talented newborn portrait photographer) who captured some behind the scenes images from my WPPI presentation. I want to also thank TAMRAC (can’t live without their rolling cases) and to CameraBits (Photo Mechanic software) for the awesome giveaway items, and also to Song Freedom for the music during my workshop.
While in Las Vegas, I also photographed the boy band ‘C-Boyz Starz’ at a gorgeous location about an hour outside Vegas. I look forward to re-visiting this location to soak in all that it has to offer – it screams editorial fashion shoot!
